The Barrel Bros’ Review

If you’re the type of whiskey drinker who likes to linger over a glass and dig into layers of flavor, the Nashville Barrel Co Single Barrel bourbon might just be your next favorite bottle.

The nose hits you right away with dessert shop depth: dark chocolate, toffee, and burnt sugar open up beautifully. If you’ve ever had a chocolate cream-filled Pirouette cookie or a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, you’ll recognize those notes. There are also undertones of vanilla, butterscotch, almond, and even hints of fig, banana crème, and maple syrup. It’s a nose that evolves as you sit with it—complex and expressive, the kind of whiskey you could nose for ten minutes and keep picking up something new.

The palate is sweet, dark, and layered. You’ll find flavors like vanilla wafer, brownie batter, and raw cocoa powder alongside sweeter fruit notes like grape and raisin. Despite the proof, it’s not overly aggressive. There’s a light oil mouthfeel, a little drying over multiple sips, and a gentle bite—but nothing harsh. It drinks rich without being syrupy, and the balance here is impressive.

The finish is long, with dark fruit—particularly fig—lingering alongside hints of chocolate and orange. It’s a chewy, flavorful finish that delivers complexity without bitterness or sharpness. The drying aspect continues here, but it doesn’t overshadow the sweeter notes that persist.

This single barrel from Nashville Barrel Co is a flavor-packed pour. It combines sweet, dark dessert tones with fruit-forward complexity and just enough heat to stay interesting. While it might not hit the "exceptional" tier for everyone, it absolutely delivers a memorable experience. At its MSRP, it feels like a premium option, though if you can find it on sale, even better. As with all single barrels, this one’s unique character is a one-time experience—which is both the joy and the heartache of these releases.

If you're anywhere near downtown Nashville, the distillery is worth a visit. Just don’t be surprised if you walk out with more than one bottle.

THE NOSE:
Fig, grape, banana creme, and pine. Those were the three main profiles I could identify on the nose.

Very distinct flavors, but overall a very enjoyable nose.

Also a bit of maple syrup as the pour progressed.

THE TASTE:
It has a light oil mouthfeel
with a bit of a bite from the proof. It does start to dry out the palate over multiple sips.

Sweet Sunkist raisin is the best description for the main flavor of the palette.

There is also a bit of a raw cocoa powder flavor as well.

THE FINISH:
Surprisingly the fruitiness stays strong through the finish as it develops into a darker fig profile.

It has a really nice drawn out finish that you can just chew on.

BUY OR PASS?
I would guess this is a high rye mash bill, as many of my favorite rye profiles are present. I really enjoy grape and fig profiles and this really delivers in that area.

It doesn’t quite cross into the exceptional range for me, but still a really solid pour!

The Hunter Says

Score: 8/10
Value: 4/5

THE NOSE:
This is one of those pours you could sit and nose for ten minutes and keep finding new things.

Right away, I get dark chocolate and toffee, with a burnt sugar note that’s rich but not harsh. There's also a touch of vanilla and something that reminds me exactly of those chocolate cream-filled Pirouette cookies.

A little orange creeps in too—think Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Then come notes of butterscotch, maybe even a little almond. Just a great, dessert-forward nose.

THE TASTE:
It drinks sweet but not heavy
—definitely not syrupy.

The flavors come through clearly: vanilla wafer, dark chocolate, and some of those darker notes I love, even some brownie batter.

The sweetness is rich, but smooth. And best of all? No bite at all. Just flavor.

THE FINISH:
The finish carries that same dark sweetness, along with a nice touch of orange.

It sticks around for a good 30 seconds, and that’s always a win for me.

Long, flavorful, and clean.

BUY OR PASS?
This is the kind of pour that checks all the boxes for me. Rich, sweet, layered, and smooth. It could stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the best Elijah Craig Barrel Proof or Stagg Jr. releases.

I picked this single barrel up in Kentucky, and honestly, that’s the only sad part—because I know I’ll never find this exact bottle again.
