The Hunter Says
Score: 8/10
Value: 4/5
THE NOSE:
There’s very little at first, which might be due to it being a light whiskey.
You get a definite sense of proof and a bit of corn.
Given some time, it opens up into honeycomb, some marshmallow, and funfetti cake.
THE TASTE:
It has an ultra-sweet mouthfeel – like drinking syrup.
You get that funfetti cake flavor, but without the char from the oak, I’m not getting those darker burnt caramel and brown sugar notes.
Sadly, the proof is a bit overpowering.
THE FINISH:
This is where the 16 years really shine through.
Without the age, I’d imagine the finish would fall flat, but here it adds some complexity.
BUY OR PASS?
Anytime you can get 16 years of age in a $100 bottle, it’s worth trying.
Plus, if you’re interested in exploring a light whiskey, which will give you something different, this is a terrific option. Cheers!
